Have you lived here? Write a Review! This has the potential to be a great place, what with the location on the corner of Bayers, Young and Windsor, but the poor management takes from that. We lived there for 2 years. The first weekend we moved in, we noticed our apartment smelled like cigarette smoke. Both my husband and I have asthma, so this was a bit of a problem. Called landlord, a few days later he came by, smelled our apartment, said we were crazy. The smell was under all our cupboards, and in our bedroom. We finally switched bedrooms. It was leaking in from other apartments, below and beside us. We bought multiple air purifiers and left them running almost 24 hours a day. Once we moved out, I had to rewash everything and dry clean a bunch of stuff, once we were in our smoke free new home, all we could smell on our stuff was cigarettes. We had a fabric couch, got rid of that and had to buy another. Once, our stove/oven stopped working, and landlord took 3 days to come and fix it. We couldn't cook anything, just ate sandwiches and cereal for a weekend. That was in our first 6 months. We stayed our year, and then my husband went back to school, so we signed up for another year just because the location was great for my drive to work and my husband's bus ride to school. We started to look for a new place, something slightly cheaper, We gave 3.5 months written notice, and found a new place. We finished with our apartment early and spent April 29, 30 and May 1 trying to get landlord in for an exit inspection. No show every time. Finally we just dropped the keys in the apartment with a letter containing our current address for the damage deposit. We gave him just over 2 weeks to get the deposit to us, or even a receipt of what they spent it on, then called landlord on the 16th. He asked us to meet him on the 19th at 10 am, where he was once again a no show. We then played phone tag for the next two days, with him being incredibly rude anytime we actually spoke to him. We finally got a partial deposit back, today May 21, and we're so frustrated with the whole thing that we just don't care about the money anymore, and just want absolutely no contact with these people anymore. I do not recommend this building to anyone, unless you really want a hands off landlord who works for his dad, so there are literally no repercussions for anything he does. They finally upgraded and maintained the emergency lights and fire extinguishers after our first 6 months there. The fire doors on the stairwells aren't so great though. And with all the pot and cigarette smokers in the building, there's bound to be a fire at some point. All reviews are the sole opinion of the authors and are not moderated or endorsed by Rent Donkey.
